Dr. Kesheng Shu

He is a postdoctoral fellow in the Research group Climate Change and Security at University of Hamburg, Germany. He received his BSc in Geology at China University of Geosciences, Economics at Wuhan University, and completed his MSc in Regional Economics at Chongqing University of Business and Technology. His PhD research in Human Geography was hosted by University of Hamburg and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences. In his PhD thesis, Dr. Shu focused on tailoring a sustainable development pathway for the bioenergy industry in China. To achieve this goal, he developed the Bioenergy Industry Decision Support System (BioDSS), using a mixed integer nonlinear programming approach. The model considers the interactions and two-way feedbacks between natural and human systems from the perspective of bioenergy, simulating the entire lifecycle of bioenergy from biomass cultivation, collection, transportation, conversion to bioenergy products distribution and by-products reuse.
